Physician Focus, July 2009: Home Health Hazards

Mold, lead, carbon monoxide, radon, pests, toxic chemicals – these are just some of the potential hazards lurking in our homes.

What are the primary dangers homeowners face? How should we check for them?  Are there clues or signals that will alert us to these dangers? What should we be aware of when we buy products, such as cleaning agents, paints, or tools? What additional concerns should we have if children or pets are in the house? And what specific steps should we take to reduce the dangers and ensure our home is as safe as possible?
