Physician Focus, August 2009: People, Animals, and Health
People, animals, and the environment have converged today in so many ways that the health of each group seems inextricably linked. As a result, our dependence on animals and the products they provide poses increasing risks for our health and well being. Mad cow disease and avian flu are but two examples. While veterinary and human medicine are considered separate entities, many links exist between the two.
How are these professions linked? How can they come together to improve the health of both man and animal? And how do we meet the needs of disease prevention and health promotion in people, animals, and the environment?
